Something About Ria.
Dutch born Ria grew up on the waterways of the river Rhine, traveling from Holland to Switzerland through Germany and France.
She migrated to Australia in 1960 from Amsterdam in Holland and settled in Adelaide before moving to Queensland where she has been living for the past 10 years.
Ria has been exhibiting since the early 70's and has won various awards, including a price at the Gold Coast Art & Design Award 2004 and various Artist in Residencies. Amongst them a month in the 'Sails of the Desert' Hotel in Alice Springs and various other residencies.
Ria is showing a small collection of her work from an impressive body of art produced over a life time of dedication and passion. Her skills in different mediums provide a unique window view of landscapes, architecture, people and cultures in different parts of the world.
This wonderful collection of paintings, illustrations, pastels, mix media, acrylic and water colours showcases Ria's wide ranging talents.
She was also 'Artist on Tour' with an Aboriginal Dance & Performance Troupe for the French Folkloric Festival traveling through France and Spain.
She has been credited with pioneering body painting in Australia and internationally. Over a 27 year span her living works of art have extended to television, major exhibitions and festivals.
In 2003 Ria became world champion at the 52nd 'CIDESCO' World Congress Make-up and Body Art Championship in Adelaide.
In 2004 Ria had the first body art exhibition in the Logan Art Gallery, Brisbane.
“Body painting entices and entertains the viewer’s natural sense of voyeurism. It unifies and encourages our fundamental curiosity to interact with an environment that is normally alienated from our own personal experiences,” she said.
